Tour Eiffel - Eiffel Tower SIAL 2010 was arranged at Paris (Parc des Expositions) between 17-21 October 2010. We attended to fair as a visitor, just to meet with our current clients and also to see new business possibilities.

Fair was really caused nice relationships, we met with many great companies and had chance to share ideas with them. I hope we will come with very good news about expanding / entering to new markets with our new partners worldwide soon.

There was a huge interest on our organic products, sadly Organic Food Hall (Hall 8 ) was really bad, it was pushed to side, there was a really little interest of visitors because it was a little bit far from other halls. We were expecting more focus on organic and natural products, this is the industry of future, we believe.

I took some notes to give you a brief information about fair and also some personal opinions:

  • Main focus on SIAL 2010 was “Innovation”. Products who have innovative ideas introduced to visitors at Hall 6. Some of them are awarded also.
  • From 106 countries, 5700 exhibitors attended to fair.
  • First two days entrance records showed %8 fall in visitors compared to SIAL 2008 (136,500 to 147,860)
  • Turkish pavilion and Istanbul Chamber of Commerce prepared their self to fair very well. Everything from packing to Turkish restaurant was great and professional. Istanbul Chamber of Commerce spent 2.5 Million USD for this fair.
  • There were 128 exhibitor companies from Turkey (in 4356 m2). Because of great interest of Turkish companies to fair, 40 companies from Turkey could not find a place to attend as a visitor. SIAL 2010 Paris Turkish booth view
  • Security control was ridiculous. My opinion is, security control should be done at the entrance of “fair place” not at entrance of “every hall”. Even if you just go front of the door in fair area, or if you go to another hall (for example Hall 1 to Hall 8 – people who visited this fair will understand what I mean right?) you should pass for security again. This is annoying because we carried bags with us, they always requested from us to open them for a security. Could not they do it at the entrance of “fair area” just one time?
  • Transportation with RER train in Paris was a nightmare. We waited for 45 minutes just to get in to RER train (normally it is 15 minutes) and we also could not get in when train came, because of too much crowd. People (ladies actually) cried in front of my eyes because of too little space. We could not even breathe on train.

After all, I can tell you that trip to Paris and visiting SIAL fair was really effective and you should really consider visiting / attending this type of events to have fruitful business meetings, expanding your market and networking of course.
